Hey there, and thank you for this excellent question! We would love to have MMO/D&D/tabletop characters, but they will have to be applied for as original characters and they cannot have any relation to existing IPs. So you could absolutely apply for a character from the Forgotten Realms, but they can't be Xanathar's child or something like that. You will also have to fill out the world information/history section of the OC app, but you don't have to explain the entire mythos of the setting, just whatever is relevant to your character specifically.
I will update the OC section to address this, but please do let us know if you need any further help or clarification! Thank you!
Here are some questions that have been asked on plurk/discord:
Is there an age restriction for characters? Nope! We don't plan on there being any content that would be inappropriate for children, but please do be mindful of any content warnings on posts that may contain adult themes as per our game rules.
What about weapons brought into the game? Will guns work? Guns will work provided they are basic shooters and not technology based, but you will be limited to whatever ammo you had on you when you arrived. This may be a good plotting opportunity to find someone to help you make more!
I'm sorry if I missed it in all of this/the Plurk or Discord but. For characters that were previously in Asgardeventide, will they remember being in Asgard before/the Gods and what happened? In case I go with bringing in Clem instead of someone new, and for others that might be wondering and wanting to bring back their previous characters. I figure this is the best place to ask.
Hello again, we're super excited to hear you're considering joining the new game! Unfortunately, we are only accepting original universe applications, and that would qualify as a CRAU. As much as we love Eventide more than the moon, we'll be keeping it as a very separate universe from this game, so there likely will never be any direct crossover except for maybe memes because we miss you all so dang much. ;; We look forward to a brand new Clem or any other character you might want to bring into the game, though!
Hi mods! I just want to clarify something re: canon powers. So if Steve is getting stripped his super soldier powers would that mean he would be back to “I’m so sick how am I still alive” Steve Rogers, or could I keep the health benefit effects and just knock him down to a normal baseline human?
Hello there! The power nerf is nothing quite so strict as that, so Steve can keep his health benefits and he can even be a bit stronger than someone that has never seen a gym before, but he wouldn't have the super strength to pull a helicopter back down to earth or anything vaguely heroic like that. The gods are trying to recreate their bodies as similarly as possible so he won't be reverted to "skinny Steve" in Asgard, he'll just be buff and terribly ordinary. Haha I hope this helps, but please do let us know if we can clarify anything else for you!
Hey mods. Would it be possible to app a book character who is dead before the story, but has enough personality, character and history established to fill a personality section?
Hey there, and thank you for your interest in the game! Unfortunately, we will be requiring that characters have a decent amount of their own "screen time", if you will, where they appear as themselves in canon materials whether it's through present time/flashbacks/visions/etc. A character whose personality or history is largely detailed by secondhand accounts will not constitute enough of a canon appearance to be considered applicable, as would unfortunately be the case for Rhaegar. We hope you might consider applying for another character, and thank you again for your question!
Hello there, and thank you for your question! Mythological characters are absolutely welcome, as long as you're drawing from some kind of source material. We have no issues with any mythos crossover either, so you can definitely bring a Thor into Asgard. Please let us know if we can clarify anything further, and thank you for your interest in the game!
hi mods! i know loki's magic would be nerfed, but would his natural strength/faster reflexes (than a human) remain? additionally, would his shapeshifting also remain or would he be locked in a single form, as that has to do with his physical body? lastly, purely because i can't find a note of it, does odin only have one eye yet or is he still two-eyed because mimir still has his head? i didn't want to just assume off npc icons.
Hey there, and thank you for your question! All of those abilities would be nerfed upon entry into the game, as all characters will be restricted to "normal human" capabilities. You could say he's a little stronger or a little faster than someone who's never been trained to do such a thing, but it still would not be anything far beyond what your average human being can do in the real world, and he would not be able to shapeshift.
As for our NPCs, they do look exactly like their icons, eyes and limbs and everything! Our lore is very, very loosely based off of Norse mythology; I would go so far as to say some things really only kept the names. Haha We'll see if some parallels may come to pass in the course of the game, but for now, everything is as it seems on paper.
I hope this helps, and please feel free to less us know if you have any more questions!
Hello! I'm thinking of apping a non-human character who is an anthro wolf. Because of it implies, I wish to know what limits I should apply.
He is indeed stronger, faster, better sense of smell, etc, than a human, but I suppose those would be nerfed to human ability? However, legosi still has really sharp fangs and claws, he absolutely does not feel cold because FUR - so I think it's better to ask the mods what you think it's best.
He has no supernatural powers, it's literally just a wolf with humanoid anatomy. All wolf characteristics are still there, plus the human characteristics, so I will roll with whatever you think it's best!
Hello there, and thank you for your interest in the game! As far as the superior senses go, those would be fully nerfed to normal human capabilities; this would include smell/sight/hearing/etc. You may have have him be a little bit stronger or faster than a human that has never exercised regularly in their life, but it still would be nothing far beyond general human ability.
As for physical attributes, he may keep his claws and fangs and they would still be capable of doing damage, so long as it's purely physical damage with no real supernatural ability to it. He would still have his fur as well, but because this is more of a minor detail, we'd let you decide whether or not he can feel the cold yourself. It may be a fun mechanic to play with, and there may be circumstances where such a resistance to cold would not apply regardless.
I hope this helps, and please do feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
I am wanting to play this little lady here, but I am curious. It says powers are stripped/nerfed and they essentially now have the capabilities of humans, but how would a vampire be handled? Would they still crave blood at all?
Hey there, and thank you for your interest in the game! A vampire would still have all of their abilities nerfed, but we would leave it up to you to decide whether or not they still need blood to survive. They would gain no benefit other than general nutrition, so it could be fun to play it either way! Please let us know if you have any further questions!
Hi! I was wondering what happens with cyborgs? Would they arrive in that form or be reverted physically back to their previous living body (in this case, an alien)?
Hey there, and thank you for your interest in the game! Cyborgs can arrive in their robot form and they would still be made of metal/plastic/whatever else their body is made of, but they technically will not operate on any form of electricity or circuitry (because magic!). Their bodies can still be destroyed, they can still die, and they will not have any sort of special ability beyond that of a standard human being. So basically they'd just be a mortal hunk of fancy metal. I hope this helps, but please do let us know if you need any further clarification!
Regarding the writing samples in our applications, I wasn't clear on whether we are supposed to provide both a roleplay sample and an introspective sample? Or do we only need to provide one of these two possibilities?
I can do either or both, I just need to know which it is. Thank you! Looking forward to this game!!!
Hey there, and thank you for your interest in the game! You only need to provide one or the other, not both. Let us know if you have any further questions, and best of luck with your application!
Rule 4 on the god powers page explains that magic can only be used a limited amount depending on the magic and the character's level with their god, but doesn't really specify how often or what levels.
Would it be possible to get a more detailed guideline on exactly how draining magic is? Or examples on how often certain level spells could be used at each god 'tier'?
I'm also curious about limitations on Healing/Death Defying magic such as Reincarnate, Raise Dead, Regenerate etc.
Hey there, and thank you for your questions! We'll work on some kind of language to explain how the limitations on magic work without using "spell slots" or similar terminology. Consider it in the works, but it is an excellent idea and we'll update the god powers page once it's done.
As for the second question, the PCs cannot have any ability that involves resurrection or returning life to someone. They can heal or regenerate, those are actually fine, but they will not be able to help anyone that is straight up dead. Speak with Dead would similarly be impossible. This is for very specific game lore/mechanics, but there are plenty of other options to choose from! Please let us know if we can help in any way!
Hoping to app next cycle but since two ladies I'm looking at are supporting I'm just being on the safe side before working on apps: Christine Palmer from MCU/Doctor Strange (mostly due to lack of post movie info, I do have a compliant with Endgame version that fills in blanks with hunches) and Kristen Kringle from Gotham (only a season and a half as a recurring not counting the Isabella arc (same actress).
Also for Kristen: she's only been seen a handful of times without glasses so I'm onboard with it being a medical need. Would she be able to keep them or is stumbling around in her future till she finds replacements?
Hey there, and thank you for your interest in the game! I just wanted to let you know that we bumped your characters questions to the app team. It was determined that Christine Palmer does not have enough canon to be applicable, but we're still debating on Kristen Kringle. I'll let you know as soon as we determine a final call on that, but just to answer your second question, there's no reason why she wouldn't have her glasses with her upon entry into the game. Thank you for your patience while we figure this one out, and please let us know if there's anything else we can help with!
Hi there, and thank you for your question! All characters are fully stripped of their powers upon entry into the game, so she will be completely mortal and powerless, aside from the god power granted upon entry into the game. Please let us know if you need help with anything else!
Hi there! So I'm not sure if mods are canon familiar, but I have a question regarding what types of characters aren't allowed and if Data-Sora here would be considered a "duplicate".
Would certain characters from the Kingdom Hearts series count as doubles? Characters like Data-Sora/Riku/Roxas and Riku Replica for example. They're technically their own person and exist in the same universe as their real counterparts.
Also, hello... it's me again with a different character option and another question, since I noticed the KH cast may be reaching cap!
Another potential character I'm thinking of is Alpha from Final Fantasy XIV... who's a really intelligent bird. However, he's never shown to speak and mostly speaks bird/chocobo language (so a lot of chirping "kweh", "wark".) He's only understood by a few people, but is shown to speak into the main character's head at the end of his quest line.
I would prefer to keep his chocobo speak like canon and I was wondering if there was some way to keep it that way here? Or will the magic translate his bird noises?
hi! as i went through the gods list, i realized that heimdall's pb is porthos from constance's canon, and i just wanted to ask - would he look exactly the same, or would there be enough of a difference that she wouldn't mistake the two?
Hey there! I spoke with Heimdall's player, they would prefer just different enough to distinguish the two but you could go with an uncanny resemblance if you'd like. Thank you for asking beforehand, we appreciate it! :)
Hey there, and thank you for your interest in the game! AMC Preacher would count as its own self-contained universe, yes. Let us know if there's anything else we can help with!
Hi, this is a location question! Claire and Wen Qing are exploring the Heillhaus/hospital in a thread. Can I assume it's structured and functions like a typical modern hospital? Is there anything unusual we should know about it?
Hey there, and thank you for your question! It is structured as a pretty standard modern hospital. The only difference is that there are both doctors and healers, so you could find either treating a patient. I hope this helps, but let us know if you have any further questions!
Hey there, and thank you for your question! Some roads are paved, some are dirt and gravel, some might even be cobblestone. We haven't really mapped out the small details of the city like that yet, but you could absolutely say there's somewhere that has flat pavement she could ride on! A terribly vague answer, but I hope this helps for now! Please let us know if there's anything else we can help with.
hi mods! i have another "power" question (i know those are popular) - in alanna's canon, she has a weird quirk where she sneezes when people use magic (called the gift) around her. it's not a power per se (or at least, it's not explained or used as such since it's out of her control), but i was assuming that would go away in asgard - just wanted to check to be sure!
Hey there, and thank you for your interest in the game! This ability would be nerfed upon arrival, yes - but it's probably a good thing. Literally every molecule of this world is made of magic, I would be concerned about her sneezing herself to death! Haha Let us know if there's anything else we can help with!
I saw that someone already asked about vampires but I'd like to be a little more specific. The vampire I'm thinking of is basically undead in his canon (no pulse or heartbeat) so would that be changed upon his arrival? Aaand about the whole blood-thing, in Edgar's canon they kind of absorb the blood from their victims, either by biting them or draining it along life force with their fingertips, would he keep this ability or would it be considered magic? (Oh yeah, he also eats roses same way because why not??)
Hey there, and thank you for your interest in the game! We would leave it up to you to decide if his heart is pulsing or not, but he would be considered "alive" in the more literal aspect either way. You would also be able to decide whether or not he would still need to drink blood, although the ability to absorb anything through his fingertips would be nerfed. That's more along the lines of a supernatural ability, whereas you could explain drinking blood as a biological mechanic. Thank you for your patience in getting this answer back to you, and please let us know if you have any more questions!
Question about wings, because having them falls into a gray area. Lucifer can hide or reveal them (mostly) at will. Would that count as a special ability and therefore not have them, or would he be able to unfurl purely ornamental wings?
Hi there, thank you for your interest in Asgard! That's an excellent question - for the purposes of the game, Lucifer would be unable to hide or reveal his wings, as he would be functionally human during his time here. If you were to pull him from a canon point where he had his wings out, then he would be able to keep them, but he wouldn't be able to fly with them, nor would he be able to put them away.
I hope that helps, but if you have further questions please don't hesitate to let us know!
They don't come off at all! They're basically solid cuffs, but of a very lightweight metal that doesn't seem to get dirty or otherwise unpleasant beyond the fact that they're there.
Hi mods! Quick question about apping from the latest season - So season 3 of Stranger Things came out July 4th. So I'd want to turn in my app asap in the app round, but I think you look at the apps at the end of the round. Can I app him right from season 3, or do I need to app him from season 2 and immediately update him? Thank you!
Hey there, and thank you for your interest in the game! Any new characters accepted in the next app round will be entering the game on August 8, which is over a month after the new season was released, so you can go ahead and app him right from season three. Please let us know if we can help with anything else!
Hello hello! I have... a pretty specific question, particularly for disabled characters. Y'shtola here is blind due to a complicated series of unfortunate events that she had a hand in, but she gets around just as well as any person with sight because she channels her own life force into being able to sense the magical energies of the world around her.
However, if I do decide to get her into the game she obviously cant access that ability anymore. Is there any kind of concession to be made, or is she just plain screwed? Personally I don't mind having her need to learn how to get by without it, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
ETA: I'm also considering another character! I can only app one though, since they're close castmates.
The other character is the Crystal Exarch, and he himself is heavily handicapped, because he's attached to a physical, magical structure that gives him his powers and keeps him immortal. As such, aside from having part of his body become crystal or has crystal growths on it (hence his name), he cant be away from it for too long because he gets weaker and weaker. Can there be something done for him?
Hi there, and thank you for your interest in the game! Interestingly, the same rule that would apply to these characters benefits one and weakens the other. As you said, Y'shtola's ability would be nerfed upon entry to the game, so she would have to learn how to navigate completely blind. Nothing beyond standard human capabilities can remain.
In the Chrystal Exarch's case, the magic that would create the condition of needing that crystal to survive would also be nerfed. He would be able to exist in the game detached from it without harm, also reduced to standard human capabilities. It's completely up to you which of these circumstances might sound more fun to play!
There has been some previous discussion about how a blind character might be able to access the network as well. We ultimately decided that we'd let you decide how you want to play that out too! The bracelets are tied directly to each character's soul, so you could say it recognizes Y'shtola's needs and reads the options aloud to her on its own. If you'd like to play out her asking for that feature to be made available, we can say it wasn't something the gods accounted for and add it in that way. We can also upgrade the network with any other accessibility functions you think might be helpful for your character. All of the things are possible, it just depends on how you'd like to play through it. :)
Please let us know if you have any further questions or if there's anything else we can help with!
