Hi there, and thank you for your interest in the game! Interestingly, the same rule that would apply to these characters benefits one and weakens the other. As you said, Y'shtola's ability would be nerfed upon entry to the game, so she would have to learn how to navigate completely blind. Nothing beyond standard human capabilities can remain.
In the Chrystal Exarch's case, the magic that would create the condition of needing that crystal to survive would also be nerfed. He would be able to exist in the game detached from it without harm, also reduced to standard human capabilities. It's completely up to you which of these circumstances might sound more fun to play!
There has been some previous discussion about how a blind character might be able to access the network as well. We ultimately decided that we'd let you decide how you want to play that out too! The bracelets are tied directly to each character's soul, so you could say it recognizes Y'shtola's needs and reads the options aloud to her on its own. If you'd like to play out her asking for that feature to be made available, we can say it wasn't something the gods accounted for and add it in that way. We can also upgrade the network with any other accessibility functions you think might be helpful for your character. All of the things are possible, it just depends on how you'd like to play through it. :)
Please let us know if you have any further questions or if there's anything else we can help with!
Thanks for the detailed response! I appreciate it a lot since it does give me a lot of ideas to think about, and also helped me decide which character I want to app; Y'shtola, since I do like many of the options you've offered to me, especially potentially collaborating with the gods to make TTS or something similar available.
It's absolutely our pleasure! We'd like to make sure you have what you need to enjoy your time in our game as much as possible. This is great choice, and we'd be happy to help facilitate that conversation with the gods if/when you join the game. Thank you again for your interest, and we look forward to reading your application!
lsdkgjhsl did you know that I forgot the most important detail about Y'shtola? In the canon point I'm aiming to take her from, she's just her own disembodied soul that was yanked out of her body into another world, and canon has yet to address how she and her friends will be able to return to their bodies back in their own world (maybe in future patches buuuut we don't even have foreshadowing for that yet). People can see and hear them though, and they interact with the world like they still have bodies, like feeling the temperature, needing food, getting injured, etc.
As of said canon point, Y'shtola has been in the other world for 3 of that world's years, but it's only been a short time in her home world (anywhere from a few weeks to maybe a month or two) because of weird timey-wimey parallel world things. This means that while the soul Y'shtola (who hasn't aged because... you know) has taken on an entirely new costume, her body is likely still wearing her old outfit, if it wasn't changed into some casual stuff more suited for a patient.
If I were to app her from the canon point I want, would she still have the same disembodied-but-visible-and-tangible-soul status, or would some mechanics in the game reunite her with the body she left behind?
I'M SORRY THIS CANON DOESN'T KNOW WHAT CHILL IS...
Like any good canon. Haha This is an interesting case! If I'm understanding correctly, she is technically a soul or in some kind of spirit form, but she still has the physical limitations/requirements of a standard body? If there is no supernatural benefit to the disembodied form, and they are still fully tangible and perceivable by standard people, I honestly might be cool with letting you decide on this one too.
The gods are trying to recreate people's forms at the moment of their canon point as accurately as possible, to the extent that is needed for them to survive; the standard human capability nerf. Depending on how exactly this works in your canon, it might be fine to keep her that way if you wanted to. Or we could also say they reunite her with her body for the purposes of the game as well, I'm honestly down with creating a justification for almost anything. Haha
Do you happen to have any links to that specific chapter of the game, or more information on what this spirit form entails? And/or some reference pictures of what she looks like at this canon point. I can take a look at it and get back to you, just let me know! Thank you for your patience!
Sorry for the delay! I had to take a few screenshots 8')
On the left is Y'shtola at a much earlier canon point, before her soul was summoned out of her body. On the right is her soul, as it is currently in Final Fantasy XIV. The lighting is different, but her physical appearance hasn't changed outside of a new outfit. You can click the image to open it up and make it its actual size, if you like.
And you're right-- there's no difference or advantage to be had in her current form over her previous form. This is what the Crystal Exarch, who accidentally separated their souls from their bodies and brought them to the setting the game spends most of the story in, has to say about it: It's literally like nothing has changed with her existence, and she and the others in her exact situation carry on like no nothing has happened. They cant walk through walls, fly, etc., and whatever disabilities/disadvantages they had in their actual bodies are carried over in their current forms-- otherwise Y'shtola wouldn't have remained blind. It's also implied that they must eat like any other person, since another character asks the PC to tell Y'shtola that dinner is ready at some point in the game. (They can also get drunk, which is hilarious.)
It's like as if they simply up and traveled physically to the current setting. Which makes things super convenient?!?!? but still confusing to rp, especially to canon-blind people, which is why i thought i would discuss it with you. tbh I would prefer to keep her the way she is in her current canonpoint rather than reunite her with her body so I don't make my head explode (and I'm going with that in the TDM too if it's okay--)
This all sounds perfect, honestly, so she could come into the game in her current form. :) Please let us know if there's anything else we can help with!
