FAQS: APPLICATIONS
![]() |
❧ who can I apply for? Virtually anyone, so long as they are not a real person, and they exist in some form of media with enough canon screen time to build an app around! Original characters, characters from live action TV shows, anime, cartoons, comics, novels, video games, telenovellas, plays – anyone is applicable! We do not allow fandom OCs, canon AUs or duplicates, CRAUs, or characters based off of YouTube personalities at this time. We do ask that whomever you apply for has more than ten minutes' screen time in total; anything less is not enough time to glean a well-rounded personality from. Creating headcanon for characters where very little information is given may be acceptable, if used reasonably and sparingly. Please hold back on using headcanon wherever possible unless you absolutely must include it, and if you do end up including some, we ask that you clearly note it and how it fits in with the rest of the character's history. Any application that is more than 1/3 headcanon will not be accepted. ❧ what about original characters, or characters from a tabletop setting? We welcome and encourage any original characters. An OC can be defined as any original character that is derived from a world or universe of the player's own making. All character information would be provided by the player, as there is no established canon for the mods to pull references from. Applications for original characters will be more thorough in order to get a sense of the character, but please don't be daunted! We love original characters. Like, love them love them. It might get a little weird. You are more than welcome to apply for your OC! The 7 character cast cap does not apply to original characters. We do allow characters from D&D or other tabletop settings, you can apply for your character as an OC as long as they do not have any relation to official IPs. For example, your character can come from the Forgotten Realms, but they cannot be Xanathar's child or spouse. You will still have to fill out the world information/history section of the OC app, but you don't have to explain the entire setting's mythology or background, only whatever is relevant to your character specifically. You can use links to help provide reference if you'd like. We also welcome protagonist characters from story-heavy MMOs, in which a personality can be satisfactorily gleaned from the actions of that protagonist over the course of the plotline. Examples of applicable MMO protagonists include FFXIV's Warrior of Light or any of the possible PCs in SWTOR. Please note that we only accept one protagonist per MMO based on our duplicates rule, whether or not the two were played differently throughout their stories! These protagonists would fill out the canon character application rather than the OC one, as we view them more like a silent protagonist than an OC. ❧ what about new canons or recent updates? Your canon material must have been out for at least one month in order to be considered applicable. This includes new episodes/seasons that have been recently released. You may choose to apply for your character from an earlier canon point and canon update them after the new material has been out for a month. ❧ what are the character and cast caps? Asgard Genesis doesn’t currently have a character or player cap. However, there is a three character limit per player, and a cast cap of eight characters. If a time comes where we or the player base feel like a cap of some kind may be necessary, one or more may be implemented in the future. Individual canons that exist within the same universe may fall under the same cast cap, such as Marvel canons. These will be decided on a case-by-case basis and may change over time. To see which casts are approaching the eight character cap, see either the reserves or applications page for an up-to-date list! ❧ what if my character is dead or dying in canon? Characters that are dead in their canon will arrive in Asgard in full health - or near enough to, depending on how you want to play it! They may retain scars or perhaps even numbness in a certain area from the injuries that killed them if you so choose, but the wounds themselves will be completely healed over as though it's been years since they got them. Characters that are wounded at the time of their chosen canon-point will arrive in Asgard fully healed, but can also keep phantom pains or scars. However, missing limbs won’t be regenerated. ❧ what if my character isn't human? Non-human characters can keep their physical appearance, but any superhuman or magical abilities granted by their physical body will be distinctly absent. For instance, a character with wings may still have them in the game, but they will be incapable of flight and therefore largely ornamental. They can still remain control over them, as with a tail or other extra appendages, but they will act as limbs with no real power or strength beyond basic functionality. The same applies for ears with superior hearing, eyes with superior vision, etc etc. Basically, you can keep your physical form but you will have the same basic capabilities of the average human being. Feel free to contact a mod if you have questions. ❧ can I keep my canon powers or abilities? Not at this time, sorry. The magic within you that grants you those abilities is incompatible with the pure magic in Yggdrasil. As such, upon arrival, the gods seal off your magic before it can kill you (and quite violently, at that). They are very apologetic about having to alter you in such a fundamental way, and offer you a small fragment of their own powers in return. See more about god powers here. ❧ what's all this about "god houses"? In order for your character to safely exist within Yggdrasil, they must tether their soul to one of the gods, and they are only able to do so with gods that rule over a domain that is relevant to your character. Each god has their own domain: that is, every god has something over which they preside as the ruling force behind it. For instance, Odin is the God of Knowledge and Wisdom; this does not mean that the other gods are not knowledgeable or wise, only that Odin is recognized as the authority over these domains. Your character may share characteristics with more than one god, so we will be asking you to list two or three gods that you might consider a good fit for your character on your application. Upon entry to the game, your character will get to choose which of those gods they would most like to bond with, after which point they will belong in that god's house for the duration of their stay in Asgard. If not, a god (of your OOC choosing) will claim any characters who do not willfully make their own choice. See more about god houses here and here. If you aren't sure what god house might be a good fit for your character, don't worry! They aren't supposed to be perfect fits in any way, and there is a good and bad side to everything. A lich obsessed with finding the secrets to eternal life might still fall into the domains of Knowledge or Secrecy. Someone whose careless flippancy brought harm upon others might fall into the domain of Whimsy. The idea is that these are very broad categories that should encompass every variant form of it, so all you really need to do is find one domain that is close to your character. If you need help with this at any point, please do not hesitate to contact the mods for help before applying! ❧ what's all this about "god powers"? In apology for the removal of your canon abilities, as well as to give those without any magic at all a way to defend themselves, the gods will be offering a fragment of their own powers to the souls that are tethered to theirs. These abilities will grow in strength as your bond with your god grows stronger. The more you contribute to the development of their domain - by building something of your own there, or bringing people into it through trade or entertainment, or whatever suits your mind at the moment - the more you can call upon the connection between you and your god to develop your powers further too. You will have one set of abilities - a first, second, and third level spell - for the duration of your stay in the game. You have three options for building your power set: you can select one that we've prepared as an example, create your own using D&D spells for reference, or you can make an entire set from scratch. See more about god powers here. Please keep in mind that using your god power fairly aligns with our game rules, especially when using them against another PC. For this reason, we are requiring a mandatory permissions page to be somewhere in your character's journal for an easy channel of communication. Please plot with your fellow players ahead of time to make sure everyone is cool with how a scene might play out at any given moment. Contact the mods if you have any questions about the use of god powers, even if you're in the middle of a thread and just want to check if something is kosher real quick. We'll be happy to help you figure it out! ❧ what am I allowed to bring with me into the game? Only what you had on you when you left, sorry. You're blinking from one reality to another; there's not a whole lot of time to pack some summer clothes. You will arrive in Asgard with only the clothes, small items, armor, and/or weapons you had on you at your chosen canon-point. Anything that was not attached to your body or in your grasp in some way will not come with you. You will not enter the game with any pets or animal companions either, regardless of where they may have been on your person. If your pet or animal companion would have been stored in an item that was on your person, such as in Pokeballs or enchanted items like Vex'ahlia's locket from Critical Role, those items will come with you but the companions inside of them will not, as those items will no longer function within Yggdrasil. In the event that your character has a daemon or other such companion that is inextricably tied to your character's soul, we will handle these on a case-by-case basis at the time of your application. However, you are more than welcome to find a new pet in Yggdrasil as animals have begun to occupy the world, and there may very well be events or other opportunities to retrieve precious belongings from home. Stay tuned on either front! As for equipment your character can bring into the game, it's only whatever they have on their person. This means ammunition for weaponry would be limited, and anything unequipped at your canon point would not come with you. If your character has any electronics or otherwise technology based items on them, they can bring the items with them but they will be functionless upon arrival. Go here for more information about technology in the game. |
