Follow up question. If I brought him in with no wings, and later chose to canon update him to a point when they were out, would he come back with them (in that non-flying ornamental sort of way)? Trying to decide if I want to be mean straight out of the gate or not.

Ohoho that's another good question though; that would depend on the in-game way you canon update him! As mentioned, the options are going comatose or disappearing; if Lucifer were to go comatose for his canon update, his body would remain as it was when you brought him in, whether that be with or without his wings. No physical changes would occur, just (potentially) emotional and memory-related ones.
However, if you were to vanish him for his canon update, he could reappear back in Asgard with his non-functioning wings if that's the canon point you're updating to.
